AmEx unveils rewards charge card aimed at 20-something demographic

By Lauren Lindberg

10/12/2009 - Taking advantage of the widespread increase in credit card processing, American Express has unveiled a new charge card targeted at the 20-something generation.

The Znyc card, which costs $25 per year and includes participation in the American Express Membership Rewards program, is "customizable like your playlist," the company said.

Cardholders can customize their card by adding "packs" that offer tailored rewards or points. Initial packs include the "Go Pack," which offers double points on airfare; the "Social Pack," which brings double points on restaurant and event purchases as well as special entertainment offers; the "Connect Pack," offering double points and discounts for mobile and cable services; and the "Eco Pack" which offers double points at eco-friendly merchants and reduced redemption rates for eco-friendly rewards.

As a charge card, the balance must be paid off in full each month.

American Express has decided to specifically target the 20-something demographic, as it represents a US$625 billion market, Reuters reported.

As the 20-something generation increases their use of credit cards in response to this and similar programs, businesses are advised to ensure that their merchant services include credit card processing, so they do not miss out on such a large market.ADNFCR-2514-ID-19507377-ADNFCR
