While many shoppers eagerly scoop up items at the store, certain unexpected events can leave a product almost unusable. When a high-priced item gets damaged soon after it's purchased, it can leave many consumers worried about the financial implications. However, if the shoppers buy the items with a credit card, they can be entitled to a certain level of protection that will insure them against unforeseen damage after the payment processing takes place. Many of the biggest names in the credit card field have set up programs to protect purchases.
People using a certain type of Visa card will be entitled to the Visa Purchase Security Program, which covers up to $500 per claim if a product is damaged by water, weather conditions, fire or vandalism.
One of Visa's main competitors, MasterCard, has its own program to assist consumers. The card will cover up to $1,000 per incident depending on which program a person has signed up for and the retail price of the damaged item.
