Financial Consumer Agency of Canada helps students compare credit cards

By Rachel Stolzberg

20/09/2010 - University students represent a large segment of credit card companies' annual growth in new customers. However, when it comes to figuring out which cards offer the best rates and perks if used at credit card machines, many students can get lost.

Unfortunately, there is no one site that compares major credit card services and fees offered to students in an all-encompassing manner, the Chronicle Herald writes. There is one site that can make compiling information a little easier, however.

The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada created an online tool that will compare student credit card interest rates on purchases and cash advances, balance transfer fees, minimum payment requirements and any annual fees.

However, the site does not provide information on the maximum of amount of credit an issuer will grant. In general, most credit card companies issue new cardholders and students a $500 limit, the paper writes.

The FCAC's site also contains tools that will help students compare bank accounts, looking at rates, fees and any additional features.
