Hofstra University recently made payment processing news when it announced that it would no longer be accepting credit card payments beginning on June 1.The Hofstra Chronicle reports that the school canceled its agreement with a third-party payment processing service and will no longer be able to offer the option to students. According to Deborah Mulligan, director of student account operations, the students would have to be aware of the changes.
"Our third party processor... is discontinuing this service for all universities," Mulligan wrote in a letter.
The school will still accept checks electronically and students will still be able to mail them in without forcing to the school to pay payment processing fees.
Other universities have been making headlines when it comes to accepting credit cards. In a recent release, Missouri State University said that it would no longer be covering payment processing fees for students and that those who wished to use cards would have to pay a 2.75 percent convenience fee.
