The mobile payments landscape continues to show itself as a uniquely collaborative one. Join ventures such as Isis - backed by Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile - as well as Google's collaborations with Samsung, Sprint and Discover on its Wallet app have foreshadowed the market's evolving appeal. This week, payment processor MasterCard and chip-producer Intel announced plans for a multi-year collaboration aimed at further securing payment networks and online shopping experiences.
The two brands will also work closely on developing mobile payment solutions for their respective fields within the industry. A developer of computer chips, Intel may offer a role within the near field communications sector, while MasterCard - like its rivals Visa and Discover - will aim to carve out a position in the credit card processing market.
"MasterCard is constantly working to improve the shopping experience for consumers and merchants," said Ed McLaughlin, chief emerging payments officer at MasterCard. "The collaboration with Intel will deliver enhanced security and faster checkout - with the convenience of a simple click or tap."
