Kwik Trip selects point-of-sale software

By Lauren Lindberg

27/01/2011 - Kwik Trip, a Wisconsin-based petroleum and convenience store chain with 425 locations, has selected point-of-sale software that it anticipates will improve performance.

The company has opted for POS software by Radiant Systems, reports TMC Net, because Radiant specializes in convenience store POS solutions and has been in business for more than 20 years.

Kwik Trip's purchase includes Radiant Point of Sale software, Tiger Fuel Controllers and P1560 POS terminals. These upgrades will hopefully increase the speed of credit card transactions both inside the store and at the pump, says the site.

The new POS system also allows for growth at Kwik Trip, such as more advanced marketing capabilities, food services and car washes. If these initiatives are implemented in the future, the point-of-sale terminals and supporting software is already prepared to handle them. Additionally, increasing the company's reach will not sacrifice data security or transaction speed.

Although running a gas station, or any business, during a recession can be difficult, the industry offers many opportunities for entrepreneurship as the economy struggles. People will always be in need of gas station services, even if society shifts from petroleum-powered vehicles.

"Even if everyone started driving electric cars, they would need a power supply to keep them charged," said Richard Parker, founder of Diomo Corporation. "Gas stations will expand their services to provide re-charging when people are away from home."
