Contactless payment is one of the fastest growing trends in the credit card industry, especially in Europe.Among the companies that have been trying to quickly adapt to the swipe-free method of payment processing is McDonald's in the United Kingdom. Computing.co.uk reports that all McDonald's in the UK will accept the contactless payment method by the end of May 2011.
Mark Fabes, the IT director for McDonald's in the UK, said that he expects the move to put the franchise in a better position in the years to come.
"The number of cards with contactless capability among the customer base at the moment is low," he said in an interview with the source. "But we recognize that contactless near field communications capability will soon be in many customers' hands. We believe that having this technology now will help drive people into our restaurants."
Contactless payment systems are being adopted all over the world. In a recent statement, MasterCard said that it was hoping to make its PayPass tap-and-go payment system a standard feature in New Zealand by 2012.
