While the busiest consumer shopping weekend of the year may be over, the holiday shopping season is far from it. In fact, merchants can expect a wave of last-minute shoppers to hit their storefronts and websites in the days leading up to Christmas.A survey released this week by PriceGrabber shows that more than 40 percent of consumers plan to go shopping for holiday gifts between December 21 and 24. Forty-three percent of respondents said they believe the best discounts can be found during this time period. More than a quarter admitted to mere procrastination, and 22 percent believe last-minute shopping is more fun.
"After observing the increase in activity and sales of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping season this year, we expect to see a significant percentage of consumers seeking to prompt retailers to offer additional savings throughout December," said Graham Jones, general manager of PriceGrabber.
Savvy consumers are staying on top of last-minute shopping incentives that are likely to emerge in coming weeks. Merchants, on the other hand, need to ramp up their marketing, customer service, payment and ecommerce strategies to meet consumer demands.
