Neiman Marcus to accept Visa and MasterCard payments nationwide

By Louis Georgakakis

27/10/2011 - Customers at Neiman Marcus retail stores nationwide will now have more options when paying for their high-end fashions, thanks to the company's new arrangement with Visa and MasterCard to allow plastic payment processing.

Every store in the chain will accept credit, debit and prepaid cards supported by Visa and MasterCard beginning November 1, allowing this season's holiday shoppers to benefit from the added convenience.

"We listened to our customers and heard that they wanted more flexibility in their payment choices," explained Karen Katz, president and CEO of Neiman Marcus. "In today's world, our customers expect an enjoyable and seamless shopping experience across all channels. By now accepting Visa and MasterCard in our Neiman Marcus Stores as we already do online, they can shop our brands anytime, anywhere and anyplace they choose."

Neiman Marcus operates 41 stores across the U.S. under its specialty retail arm, while a direct marketing segment of the company conducts online and print catalog sales. Brands under the Neiman Marcus family include Last Call, Bergdorf Goodman and Horchow.

For Visa and MasterCard, the arrangement with Neiman Marcus is beneficial because of the many customers who frequent the retailer.

"We're excited to become an integral part of the Neiman Marcus shopping experience as consumers gain the ability to use their Visa card at one of the most iconic retailers in the world," said William Sheedy, group president of Visa's American branch.

Craig Vosburg, group executive in U.S. market development for MasterCard Worldwide, echoed Sheedy's sentiments, stating that the company was "happy to join with Neiman Marcus to provide their customers with a greater choice in how they want to pay, while maximizing value of the MasterCard cards in their wallets."

MasterCard also made news recently by partnering with Huntington in providing debit cards to customers. Thanks to the arrangement, Huntington, which offers personal and business banking, will continue to offer its debit cards for free, with no charge to open an account and no monthly maintenance fee. MasterCard's payment processing capabilities will also increase convenience for customers.

Visa recently reported that its third quarter net income was better than expected, but its revenues grew more slowly than previous quarters, according to Reuters. However, earnings are projected to rise in the coming year.
