New credit cards offer greater security and access to multiple accounts

By Lauren Lindberg

15/09/2010 - A variety of new, technologically-advanced credit cards have hit the market recently. In August, card issuer and payment processor Visa introduced a prepaid card that acts as a payment option as well as a transit and event ticketing device. Now, Dynamics is launching two new credit card options.

At Demo Fall 2010, company CEO and founder Jeffrey Mullen introduced two types of cards, both of which have rewritable magnetic strips.

The first card - which the company calls MultiAccount - allows cardholders to access two accounts with only one card. A button on the card allows users to switch back and forth between accounts. The second card - known as Hidden - is security-enabled so as to keep both the magnetic strip and the human-readable number obscured until a security code is entered.

Mullen told the source that these new cards are just as structurally sound and durable as existing cards and can survive a spin in the washing machine. Currently, several lenders are testing the cards, he adds.

Dynamics, a startup out of Carnegie Mellon University, was founded in 2007 to develop technology to supplant current "1970s" credit cards and introduce payment options for the next generation. The company has already raised $5.7 million in capital in a Series A round led by Adams Capital Management.
