Apple loves making waves. Soon, the tech company will join the Near Field Communication market, allowing customers to use iPhones and iPad tablet computers to make purchases. Not only do these devices work as music players, maps, televisions, books and more, but they could soon function as wallets.According to Bloomberg, the next generations of the iPhone and the iPad will come with embedded NFC chips that will store important credit card data and bank data, allowing users to pay for goods with just a wave of their devices within four inches of an NFC enabled processor.
Both products are likely to be introduced in 2011, says the news source.
Many payment processing companies and mobile providers are investigating the possibility of NFC and innovating new solutions, so industry experts expected that Apple would soon throw its hat into the ring.
"It would make a lot of sense for Apple to include NFC functionality in its products," Richard Crone, a financial industry adviser, told the publication.
The International Business Times explains that this development could help Apple score vital points in its battle with other computer giants. Some Android phones and the Nexus S smartphone are already equipped with NFC. Although Apple is new to the NFC market, the company does have a proven payment processing system in iTunes, which boasts more than 100 million accounts.
