Number of delinquent credit card payments falls in March

By Lauren Lindberg

27/04/2011 - In one positive sign for the United States, many credit card companies reported that the number of payments they received late fell in the month of March.

Forbes reports that the top credit card firms in the county, Chase, Bank of America, Citibank, Capital One, Discover and American Express reported that their delinquencies and charge-offs were at the lowest rates since mid-2008. The sharpest drops in late payments came from Capital One and Discover, with fewer consumers completing the payment processing after the bill comes due.

Bringing up the rear for the group of six was Bank of America, the largest card distributor in the United States, which reported the highest number of people carrying balance with 4.82.

Bank of America made other headlines when the company announced earnings results for the first quarter of 2011. The firm's net income for the beginning of 2011 was $2 billion, lower than the $3.2 billion it reported making last year but an improvement from the fourth quarter of 2010, when it lost $1.2 billion.
