More people are choosing to use the web for shopping. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, online retail trade sales reached more than $141 billion in 2008. Because of this, merchant accounts are expanding to offer goods via the internet while working to improve online presence.A recent article from dynamicbusiness.com assesses the importance of merchant accounts offering online sales. According to the source, Australian businesses are behind in offering these services, and are losing out on potential sales as a result. While more than half of all small businesses in Australia do not have a website, close to three-quarters of those with a website do not offer online transactions, the source adds.
Online sales in many industries are expected to continue to rise steadily through the next decade. The source notes a projected $33 billion online market in Australia by 2015, up from $16.9 in 2010. Offering online transactions is a fairly simple task, the website adds, as most major credit card companies already have much of the oversight in place to foster internet-based sales.
