Canadian businesses may soon see an increased demand for credit card processing as both small businesses and consumers have become more confident and optimistic, said the latest report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. The Business Barometer Index, released this week, found that small business optimism rose 3.3 points over August's figure to reach 68.7 in September. This marks the highest level since the first quarter of 2007.
This increased optimism can be seen in stronger capital investment, which will in turn boost the sales of other businesses in the pipeline.
In addition, higher consumer confidence has advanced optimism in the retail and personal service sectors, in which the business barometer optimism index has surpassed 71.
"Supporting these views, the balance of opinion on business short-term expectations shows clear improvements," said the report, noting that 17 percent more small business owners believe their business will be performing better in the next three or four months compared to the number of businesses expecting worse performance.
As both small businesses and consumers increase their spending in response to improved confidence and optimism, businesses in all sectors are encouraged to accept Visa and other payment cards to ensure that they meet consumer demand.
