Though the new version of the PCI-DSS, the governing set of security regulations for the payment processing industry, is due out in October of this year, businesses whose merchant services include debit and credit card processing will likely hear from the PCI Security Standards Council before October.Electronic payment processing news magazine Digital Transactions reported Thursday that the PCI SSC is in the process not only of revising the PCI-DSS, but also evaluating emerging payment card security technology such as EMV chip cards and end-to-end encryption.
The council will also update the Pin Transaction Security document or PTS - which governs PIN-entry devices - and the PA-DSS, which governs payment card software applications.
The evaluation of security technology is expected to be released in April, the PTS revisions will take effect at the end of April, and the PA-DSS will become official on October 31, the magazine reported.
The PCI Security Standards Council has recently closed the comment period for the new PCI-DSS, and is currently in the process of evaluating the feedback from payment processing industry players.
