POS terminal upgrades can improve security, sales

By Lauren Lindberg

18/01/2010 - There is a way for retailers to increase their efficiency, security, and customer retention without large-scale overhauls of their business plans or marketing campaigns - simply updating their point-of-sale terminals can accomplish all of these goals, said a recent report.

The recent white paper from SalePoint, titled Why Retailers Should Replace Old Point-of-Sale Systems Now, found that new POS terminals can improve compliance with the PCI DSS, TMCnet reported.

But the benefits also extend farther than just payment processing security, said the report.

"With the new point of sale system, retailers can even expect to increase their sales and perform real-time functions to support their sales and operations," TMCnet reported. "They can also have rapid and reliable data on inventory movement in the stores to adjust to consumer demand that has changed during the recession from the demand that the retailer had experienced before."

Some payment processing providers offer free POS terminal upgrades to ensure continual PCI compliance, so businesses deciding between payment processing and merchant services providers may want to take this into account, experts say.ADNFCR-2514-ID-19558985-ADNFCR
