Retailer sees the benefits of point-of-sale terminals

By Lauren Lindberg

04/10/2011 - While the majority of businesses have made the switch to modern credit card machines, there are still some that use older methods of processing payments. These companies don't often understand the benefits of modern point-of-sale systems until they have made the update.

For example, the popular footwear retailer Cathy Jean Shoes used only pen and paper systems to charge customers and track inventory. However, the inefficiency of the system caused the retailer to get with the times and use contemporary credit card machines and payment processing technology.

The overhaul took several months, but all 46 of the Cathy Jean Shoes locations throughout the country are now using up-to-date point-of-sale software and equipment.

"By updating its retail management system, Cathy Jean Shoes improved its customer service, enhanced its efficiency and boosted employee morale by freeing its workers to go home on time at the end of the day," PCWorld reports.

Technology improves all the time, so it's crucial that businesses stay up-to-date. While certain variables of owning a store are uncontrollable, such as the ability to hire or lift sales, entrepreneurs should always ensure they are using the most efficient technology.
