Ecommerce may soon be synonymous with m-commerce, as mobile devices continue to become venues for online shopping. A report released this week by Adobe Digital Marketing Insights suggests individuals who shop using tablet computers are more spend-happy than their counterparts on laptops or smartphones.According to the study, individuals who did their holiday shopping on tablet devices spent 21 percent more on average than those using a traditional computer. What's more, these shoppers spent 54 percent more than smartphone shoppers. Of course, there is a caveat:
"The increased likelihood of tablet-browsing shoppers to spend money isn't just because they're using a slate," writes Chris Davies for Slash Gear. "The study also points out that the type of person to buy a tablet - predominantly male, with a greater-than-average household income - is also the sort that would spend more money anyway."
The takeaway for online merchants is not to hastily optimize every mobile component at your disposal, so much as the need to integrate payment services and ecommerce solutions into one cohesive platform available to shoppers, regardless of their preferred shopping technology.
