By Lauren Lindberg

01/09/2010 - With the prepaid card market taking off, social networking giant Facebook is hoping to lure holiday shoppers into purchasing its branded gift cards at Target point-of-sale terminals.

Facebook and Target have announced that they will be partnering to offer the social networking site's branded gift cards, which recipients will be able to use on their favorite social games, applications and virtual goods.

Currently, more than 200 million people play free social games such as FarmVille, Happy Aquarium and Bejeweled Blitz, and some are even beginning spend money on corresponding goods and services.

Beginning Sunday, the cards will be available in values of $15, $25 and $50 at Targets nationwide. Additional retailers will be added in the coming months.

Facebook is hoping the cards will present another source of revenue in addition to its search ads, "Pay with Facebook" application and brand advertising on and off the site.
