Many travelers from the United States often run into trouble when trying to make credit card purchases. The main reason for this is that foreign countries have gone from magnetic swipe cards to chip-enabled card technology, while the U.S. cards lag behind. However, USA Today reports that two of the largest card providers in the U.S. are preparing to introduce new programs on a test market. Though not many people will be able to use them at first, Chase and Wells Fargo have both introduced the chip-enabled cards to frequent travelers.
"Chase and Wells Fargo have finally opened up the door to travelers who want to use their credit cards at places that can no longer accept the U.S. standard magnetic stripe credit card," the newspaper reported.
One of the offerings is the Visa Smart Card, which will be issued by Wells Fargo. The company will offer it to 15,000 customers who do a lot of traveling.
