U.S. Bank and AmEx encourage charitable donations by offering cardholders increased reward points

By Joseph Trigliari

08/10/2010 - Payment processing of donations to charitable organizations made with U.S. Bank’s FlexPerks Travel Rewards or FlexPerks Select Rewards credit cards will now result in triple FlexPoints for cardholders.

Through the FlexPoints Rewards program, cardholders can donate to more than over 25,000 organizations and receive triple the points they normally would.

"In today’s challenging economy, supporting the communities where we live and work is more important than ever," said Cliff Cook, chief marketing officer for U.S. Bank retail payment solutions.

This is just one of many charity initiatives launched by U.S. Bank. As a result, organizations nationwide have received more than $20.6 million in grants and employee matching gifts from U.S. Bancorp.

American Express has also used increased reward points to encourage customers to be more generous with their wallets. The credit card issuer's ZYNC charge card offers customers double reward points for purchases made at over 4,000 eco-friendly organizations.

In addition, American Express helps to make charitable donations easier with its Members Give card that has access to more than one million charities. Members Give cards enable cardholders to redeem their membership points in the form of a donation.
