Visa to be official credit card of Vancouver Olympic Games

By Lauren Lindberg

28/10/2009 - Vancouver merchants should be sure to put a credit card machine on their shopping list for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games preparation, as Visa has announced that it renewed its sponsorship as the official electronic payments sponsor of the Olympic Games.

In addition to the upcoming Vancouver games, Visa will be the official credit card of the London 2012 Olympic Games; the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia; the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the 2018 Olympic Winter Games; and the 2020 Olympic Summer Games.

Visa has held this coveted position since 1986.

Not only does this sponsorship offer Visa a variety of business and branding benefits, but it also has advantages for merchants in Olympic cities that accept Visa - the company features exclusive acceptance programs for Olympic-related transactions, as well as marketing campaigns that encourage consumers to use their credit cards.

"[W]e utilize the sponsorship platform to promote the advantages of using Visa instead of cash and check and to facilitate the development and advancement of the payment infrastructure in Olympic host countries," said Antonio Lucio, chief marketing officer of Visa.

Credit card machines equipped to process Visa cards are not only an advantage during the Olympic Games - credit card processing has been shown to boost sales and improve cash flow for many businesses.ADNFCR-2514-ID-19429805-ADNFCR
