Wireless POS terminals allow restaurant to speed up service, reassure customers of security

By Lauren Lindberg

15/03/2010 - When it comes to POS terminals, the options are not one-size-fits-all. Some businesses have different debit and credit card processing needs, which make for different POS terminal requirements.

Restaurants, for example, have particular requirements for end-of-day reporting, adjustments and portability.

One restaurant - Atlanta, Georgia-based Aqua blue - recently switched to VeriFone's wireless POS terminal offering called On the Spot. The system uses wireless, handheld POS terminals, allowing diners to swipe their own debit and credit cards at the table. It also uses the TablePay managed services portal, which aggregates transactions from each device so reporting and settlement are centralized in one place.

"The benefits of On the Spot have been incalculable," said Aqua blue owner John Metz. "Our staff likes it, and it actually helps move the tables, a good benefit on a busy night. Our guests find it fun and interactive, and they like that there's no chance of fraud. Protecting our customers from identify theft is an added bonus to the benefits we've seen here at Aqua blue."

With a recent study from Mintel Comperemedia showing that fears of identity theft have increased among consumers in recent years, a payment processing system that reassures customers of the security of their cardholder information can provide untold benefits to sales and customer loyalty.ADNFCR-2514-ID-19670194-ADNFCR
