Talents of Pivotal Payments: Suzanne Hogan

July 27 2017 | By Helen Baginska

Pivotal Payments employs many talented people who are passionate about a wide variety of things outside of work. Having hobbies helps you to release stress, express your creativity, meet new people, and conquer new challenges, all of which contribute to your overall happiness.

This month we asked Suzanne Hogan to share a bit about her hobby. Suzanne is a project manager at Pivotal’s Montreal office, and she’s also a figure ice skater! She’s a part of the synchronized ice skating team called ‘On the Edge’. Suzanne started ice skating early in life. She was only 5 years old when her dad first brought her to an ice-skating school. He thought that if she learned how to skate, she could go on to play hockey. Instead, she fell in love with figure skating. Suzanne spent the next few years single skating until, when at the age of 13, she decided to join her first synchronized skating team in Peterborough, Ontario.

Many years later, Suzanne would naturally share her love of skating with her daughter. They would often skate together leisurely at a complex in Vaudreuil, Quebec. On one such occasion, Suzanne bumped into an old friend who noticed her graceful movement on the ice, and invited her to try out for a team. It had been 12 years since Suzanne had skated competitively but without missing a beat, she managed to wow the team and was invited to be a member. This is how her journey with ‘On the Edge’ began!

Adult skating has three divisions, and each of which has 12 teams. The divisions are levels one, two and three; level one is the most advanced. On the Edge is level two. The team is comprised of 12 members whose ages range from 19 to 57 years old. They train 2.5 hours once a week at Vankleek Hill Arena and attend three to four competitions a year in Quebec and Ontario. Their goal is to keep improving within their division and recruit new members so they can have a bigger pool of people to pick from for competitions. The team is always looking to recruit new skaters, so if you would like to join or know someone you think could be a good fit, email Suzanne at
